October GEO Newsletter

UPDATE:
To all Tas and GAs,We will have the GEO General Meeting to discuss a possible strike
drive on Monday, October 29.

We have been in bargaining for almost six months and we still haven’t
received a single economic proposal (wages, health care, fee waivers,
tuition waivers, etc.) from the university! It’s time to start talking
about what we are willing to do for a fair contract. Members will
discuss and vote on whether or not we should begin organizing for a
possible strike (a “strike drive”) on Monday, October 29 at 5:30pm at
Jane Addams Hull-House, 800 S. Halsted. Food will be provided. All TAs
and GAs are strongly encouraged to attend.

Also, you can use this “Mad Libs”-style form letter to let the Board
of Trustees know why you deserve a fair contract now!

Thanks,

1. GEO bargaining session on Wednesday: your right to be free of sexual harassment, height & weight discrimination, access to necessary supplies in your workplace still on the table
We will meet again with the administration on Wednesday, October 17 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm in 650 University Hall. Articles under discussion include Nondiscrimination and Employee Rights. We have proposed language that protects workers from sexual harassment, as well as discrimination on the basis of weight, height, gender identity or expression, and HIV antibody status. We’ve also proposed expanding your access to supplies you may need to do your job as a TA or GA, including computers, printers, and assistive technology. We are hopeful that we can FINALLY settle these articles after a MONTH of slow negotiations with the administration. YOUR RIGHTS are at stake: join us for all or part of the session on Wednesday!
